Family Life
Despite being a doctor Jenner life was not immune from the effects of disease. In 1788 when he was 39 years he married Catherine Kingscote who was 27. Together they had three children Edward, Catherine, and Robert. Although his daughter was married she didn't have any children until after Jenner had passed away. Robert remained unmarried throughout his life. His son Edward died tragically of tuberculosis when he was 21 years old. His wife Catherine was plagued by poor health through most of her life and lost her life to tuberculosis in 1815.
After his wife's death Jenner went into a deep depression. To ease his depression he began to pursue some of his old hobbies. He began collecting fossils again and started a garden. He planted fruits, vegetables and grapes. The grapes he planted were from the Hampton Court Stock and are still growing to this day. In January of 1823 he suffered a stroke. Despite efforts to help him regain consciousness, he passed away a few days later at the age of 73.
